Volunteer for us!
We are currently looking to recruit volunteers to help us with the running of The Book Nook bookshop
The Book Nook is the only independent bookshop in East Hertfordshire and we are currently in the process to establish a not for profit Community Bookshop, so we can expand our education and literacy projects, which will be funded by bookshop sales and grant funding.
There are lots of ways to volunteer at the The Book Nook. People are divided into different teams, the details of which are listed below. You may wish to volunteer with one, two, or even three! Any time you are able to spare will be put to good use.
To apply please download a Volunteer Application form and either email it to us, leave the completed form at the shop or send it to the bookshop at the above address.
When we have received your completed form someone will contact you to organise a very informal interview
The Bookselling Team: Booksellers help with the day-to-day running of our shop in Ware High Street and work either a morning or afternoon shift. They accept and sort donations, price books, operate the till, and generally keep the shelves stocked and tidy. This role is ideal for someone with great people skills, who likes nothing better than to spend their time surrounded by books!
Events Team: We need volunteers who are experienced in planning and managing our author events. Whether contacting and working with author's publicists, booking venues or interviewing big name authors to put the Book Nook on the map as THE place in East Hertfordshire for literary events. This role would suit someone with Events Planning/ Management or Journalism experience.
The Marketing and Publicity Team: Are you passionate about traditional bookselling? Do you want as many people as possible to know about the bookshop and the things we do? Then join our marketing and publicity team! We are looking for people with good communication skills, who are proactive in reaching out to the wider community. Responsibilities include upkeep of the bookshop’s website, contact with other local organisations and the media, and finally close coordination with the bookshop’s own teams.
The Internet Selling Team: As well as having a ‘real’ bookshop, the Book Nook also has it's own online shop, as well as selling via Facebook and Instagram Shop. Internet shop sellers process, package and post online orders. You must be happy to work with computers, be fastidious in following correct procedures and yet flexible enough to deal with unexpected requests and queries from customers.
The Social Media Team: An exciting opportunity to support shops with managing different social media channels. With an aim to maximise engagement, promote book sales and author events and our community work. As a Social Media Volunteer, you will be involved in maintaining and creating engaging content on our social media accounts
