The Book Nook in the Community
The Book Nook Community Bookshop C.I.C.
Help us raise funds or volunteer to secure the future of The Book Nook and helps us to provide free activities to support literacy and creativity skills and foster a love and appreciation of reading and books.
We aim to build upon the success of our community activities and projects to date, by running our projects as a Community Interest Company and running the Book Nook alongside a not-for-profit Community Bookshop for local people.
The bookshop will be a warm and welcoming place, where people can have a cup of tea and a chat, make new friends, join a book group, write a short story and much more!
Please consider volunteering with us: Find out more here
Our aims are to
Provide a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space for the local community to provide access to a wide range of books, free services and activities to support literacy and creativity skills and foster a love and appreciation of reading and books.
Improve access to knowledge, learning and local cultural heritage to the local community and visitors.
Run creative and, cultural and literacy activities including:
book clubs, reading groups, visiting speakers, poets, musicians, and other events.
The Book Nook is a place for local authors and creative people to showcase their work to play an integral role as part of East Hertfordshire’s wider cultural and creative sector
Working with local schools and colleges to support language and literacy skills through activities and events to engage children, young people and adults with both reading for pleasure and education.
We work with school staff and librarians to offer advice and support on choosing a diverse range of books, to addressing inequity in children’s books so that every child has access to books that enable them to feel seen, reflected, respected and valued, giving each and every child the opportunity to thrive.
The Book Nook is involved in lots of Community Projects (but by supporting us we can do so much more!) including:
- Donations of books to children and young people in need via the local food bank
- Organising a free mini book festival in 2021
- Auctioning off a signed copy of Marcus Rashford's Book, "You are a Champion: How to Be the Best You can Be, a children's self esteem boosting book in order to donate copies to children and young people in need
- Auctioning off a Giant Gruffalo in order to raise funds for Roald Dahls Marvellous Children's Charity!
- Organising lots of free children's picture hunts and Children's Events
- Helping to organise, run and sponsor the Free Herts Book Festival 2022!
