10 Best Pieces of Life Advice from Harry Potter

Harry Potter still holds a special place in our hearts, be it the films or the books. With Harry Potter Book Night coming up on the 6th February, it got us at The Book Nook thinking about how Harry and his friends resonated with us growing up.

What we remember most from these wonderous books are the phrases and words of advice from Albus Dumbledore and more, that were bestowed upon us as kids. As 10 year olds, the life lessons and wisdoms were perhaps lost to us amongst the story and action, but that’s what makes these books even more special. Years later, on our 5th re-read, we can still discover more magic behind J.K. Rowling’s words, and the world of Harry Potter lives on.

With that in mind, here are 10 of what we think are the best pieces of life advice from Harry Potter.

“I hope you’re pleased with yourselves. We could have been killed – or worse, expelled. Now if you don’t mind, I’m going to bed.” – Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

“It does not do well to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

“But you know, happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”. – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

“Time will not slow down when something unpleasant lies ahead.” – Harry Potter, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire.

“We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.” – Sirius Black, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Cable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.” – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.” – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

“I solemnly swear I am up to no good.” – Fred & George, Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.

Overall, Harry Potter is great and needs to be celebrated. And great news, you can celebrate with The Book Nook on the 6th February 2020 as we will be joining bookshops around the world with celebrating the annual Harry Potter Book Night!
